Altrusa International is an international association of professional women who volunteer their energies and expertise in projects dedicated to community betterment. Altrusa is also a community service organization that espouses volunteerism, service and fights for literacy and against AIDS. Altrusa believes that it is a builder of women, a search for the best in character, in business, and in citizenship. Invitation to become an Altrusan is evidence of confidence which imposes upon the recipient the obligation to strive to be true to the highest standards of life in personal and business relations. Altrusa Clubs are selective membership clubs whose members practice a profession, operate and own their own businesses, hold executive positions with discretionary power, or are recognized for outstanding community work. Altrusa is democratic. It knows no class, no favorites, but is founded on merit alone. Its club meetings have speakers on the topics of Community Service, Literacy, Vocational Service, Finance and Altrusa Information with emphasis on youth.
