[edit] The Beginning of IndependenceTeenagers today deal with much more money than previous generations and develop spending patterns at a younger age. They earn, save, spend and borrow billions of dollars each year. Teens' attitudes about money are influenced by their parents, the media, their peers, and their own successes and failures in spending money.
Tip: Sure, the joy of earning and spending the money from the first job is great. But, it may be a good idea to check out some of the basics of personal finance, so that you can not only enjoy the extra cash but also make it grow.
Opinion: Although teens become more and more independent as they grow older, they still need plenty of advice from their parents. With more money to spend and more opportunities to spend it, teens can easily get into financial trouble. So, it is crucial for parents to talk to their teens and teach him/her a few financial lessons. With help from parents, teens can develop the self-confidence and skills needed to successfully manage money in the real world. Reference: Teens need Parental advise on Money

[edit] AllowancesBefore deciding on allowances for teens, take a look at their expenses. Decide which expenses you want or need your teen to be responsible for. Clarify which expenses you will pay for and those that are the teen's responsibility. Evaluate the allowance you currently give your teen. Is it too much? Does your teen work too hard for the money? Does your teen currently not receive an allowance? Most important of all, don’t look at what other parents are paying their teens, look at your own family budget. [edit] JobsWith the advent of the teen years, young ones need some weight among peers or at home among brothers and sisters, or need some extra cash to spend on new hobbies, or new clothes, or for funding a trip, or a way to spend time and know new people, or gain experience in certain field, and so on. There are many reasons why a teenager would want to get a job. The majority of teen jobs come from a limited market, which will be within a limited radius around home and school.
